For Superannuation Funds  

• Evaluating and providing constructive analysis of Insurer proposals to the Fund.
• Assistance conducting or evaluating insurance tenders.
• IBNR analysis and review – for example to assist in determining whether the proposed reserving principles are fair to apply in any experience sharing calculation and payment.
• Assisting Fund to manage the re-negotiation process with existing Insurer to achieve the best value outcome for the Fund.. 
• Maintaining, analysing and summarising insurance data to add value for optimal management of the insurance programme. 
• Providing advice to Fund on matters relating to any change in the insurance product.

For Life Insurers

• Working on key time-sensitive pricing projects such as preparing or reviewing pricing analysis and documentation for large insurance tenders.
• Reviewing pricing research looking for areas of value add or lines of analysis that can provide differentiable propositions..
• Designing proposition delivery and ways in which insurance information can be communicated effectively to target audiences.
• Reinsurance projects, for example to simplify, implement or rationalise reinsurance arrangements.

Damian Thornley is the Principal of Aurum Group Consulting. He qualified as an Actuary (FIAA) in 1999 and has close to 20-years of experience working as an Actuary in Sydney and London. Damian has been the Head of Pricing (Group Insurance) for several life insurers, and has a deep experience of life insurance product and pricing within the group insurance segment.

Damian has published Actuarial research papers in the fields of claims experience profit share arrangements for group life and reinsurance arrangements.  He has also contributed to Life Insurance industry forums discussing matters of interest to the group insurance market.
